Business

The OWRI Program in Business Research has not yet been formalized into a mature program. One of current goals is to perform assessments and needs surveys to determine what activities will best serve the Oregon Wine Industry.

OSU Colleagues from the College of Agricultural Sciences and the College of Business have contributed research and extension effort benefitting the wine industry. These colleagues include Andrew Plantinga, Robin M. Cross, and Clark Seavert from the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at OSU.

Andrew and Robin presented “The Value of Terroir: Hedonic Estimation with Data on Vineyard Sale Prices” as an OWRI seminar in January of 2011, and published the work as a formal manuscript as well.

Clark presented a seminar as well, “AgToolsTM for Measuring Economic and Financial Success in the Wine Industry”. AgTools is a software system that can help business people help plan and/or revised existing business plans for vineyards or wineries.

The OSU College of Business is also home the Austin Family Business Program. The AFBP has sponsored programs in the past including business succession planning and other topics of relevance to the Oregon Wine Industry.

During 2011, our strategic planning will include the development of a plan to initiate a more formalized program in wine business research.  If you have comments or suggestions, please forward them via email to us at owri@oregonstate.edu.
