Experiencing Wine: Lessons for the Enthusiastic Beginner-Willamette Valley Vineyards

Dr. Elizabeth Tomasino, assistant professor of enology at OSU, is offering a four part program in wine evaluation aimed for the enthusiastic beginner.

This workshop is designed for the individual who enjoys drinking wine but doesn’t quite understand the entire process of wine evaluation from an expert’s point of view. Each two-hour session will include an introduction to the topic, a brief lecture, an information packet and specific examples or standards for tasting. The second hour of the session provides a range of wines chosen to highlight the subject being discussed.

The program is divided into two sessions:

June 14, 1:00 – 3:30 PM

An Introduction to Wine and Mouth Feel
Wine tasting 1: Discovering wine styles
Wine tasting 2:  Varietal wines

June 21, 1:00 – 3:30 PM

Wine Aroma and Wine Spoilage

Wine tasting 1: Understanding balance and the role of acids and tannins in wine

Wine tasting 2: Faults in wine

As a participant you will not only learn all about wine tasting but also be exposed to a range of wines and wine styles from around the world. Refreshments will be provided at each session.
