Our group conduct research on functional genomics with a strong emphasis on specialty and cereal crops. We study different aspects of plant biology in the context of a developmental program and in response to abiotic and biotic stresses. Our plant models grapevine, a major fruit crop in U.S. and Brachypodium Distachyon (stiff brome) for cereal. Our final objective is to provide the breeding community with gene(s)-to-trait relationships for genetic improvement through either traditional or accelerated breeding. We use fundamentals of plant physiology, genetic engineering (gain and loss of function, genome editing), Next Generation Sequencing (Deep and RNA-Seq), metabolomics, and systems biology to understand basic and complex processes responsible for phenotypic plasticity in plants (www.delucl.com).
