Dr. Kar's focus area of research is grapevine ecophysiology. At Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center (SOREC), he collaborates with Southern Oregon wine grape growers and studies grapevines' interaction with local climatological and biotic stress factors such as wildfire smoke, seasonal drought, and grapevine redblotch disease.
Dr. Kar has a Ph.D. in Biosphere Science from Hokkaido University, Japan. Before joining OSU, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in viticulture at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas and Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pennsylvania.
In addition to being a postdoctoral researcher at SOREC, he is part of the Culture, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiative at OSU.
